CHAOS

72 Names of God Meditation Deck Yehuda Berg

It was not until my late 50’s that I became aware of the spiritual tradition of the Kabbalah. I began to study with a group in Woodland Hills, CA., who examine the teachings of Rav Berg.

Kabbalah originated 2,000 years ago with the writing of the Zohar by Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. “It is hidden wisdom that revealed and unified the spiritual and physical laws of life”1 Power of Kabbalah by Rabbi Yeduda Berg

Perhaps no other Kabbalistic concept pertains more to the state of our world today than CHAOS.

Chaos is the result of linking to the 1% or the physical world. It is what we experience with our five senses, or what we see, hear, touch, feel, or taste. Current examples are:

A. The Covid-19 pandemic

B. Injustice that occurs when individuals, such as dictators or violent policemen inflict pain

C. Mob violence in our cities

What does Kabbalah teach us about how to evolve beyond chaos? We must link to the 99% or what is beyond our five senses: the Spiritual Realm.

“The numerical value of Order From Chaos is seven, a highly significant number in Kabbalah. There are, says Kabbalists, ten dimensions that form reality. The highest of these ten dimensions, called the Upper Three, exist outside our physical reality. The Lower Seven, however, directly interact with our physical world. For this reason, the number “seven” turns up in many places: seven colors of the spectrum, seven notes of the musical scale, seven seas, seven major continents, seven days in a week, seventh day of rest. Things can go dreadfully wrong in the world, and in our lives, when these seven dimensions are out of alignment!”2 The 72 Names of God by Yehuda Berg)

This disorder of the Lower 7 Realms can sometimes be recognized by what is known as “the Butterfly Effect.”

In this theory, some event, often unknown, affects the outcome of a situation. This event originates in the upper three realms, or 99%, which is the spiritual dimension.

When I was young, whenever something “bad” happened, I would ask my mother in anger, “Why doesn’t God do something?” My mother would exasperatingly respond, “You won’t understand until you are in heaven.”

According to the butterfly effect, everything that is experienced: positive, negative, or neutral, takes place for a reason that cannot be known unless one has knowledge of the “total picture”, which is outside time and space. So to rage with our fists ready to strike does nothing to restore balance: it inhibits it.

For example, the crucifixion of Jesus, viewed from the 1% perspective, seems to be a horrible, unacceptable event. But what if He was never crucified? Would we have an example of the Divine in human form showing what we all come to experience in this life?: How to rise above suffering to achieve true enlightenment through challenging experiences. Would we be as likely to circumvent suffering through proactive behavior?

So how do we rise above the state of our world right now? From the 99% perspective, Covid-19, police brutality, and mob violence are all opportunities to link with the creative light force of the universe, through free will , proactive behavior,(versus a Divine “fix”) and evolving through our suffering, if our soul has chosen it.

We must ask ourselves:

  1. What is the “spiritual” lesson accompanying Covid-19?
  2. What form of government best inspires individuals to strive toward fulfillment and avoid “Bread of Shame”? (unearned rewards)
  3. What do we desire in this life that leads to our expression of purpose?
  4. What if our life circumstances are seemingly not conducive to achieving this purpose?

These are questions that “hang in the air” and allow chaos to reign, unless we “uncover” them, through study of ancient mystical traditions, like Kabbalah.

“You were made by the one who could make anything happen, even from nothing at all, for the Creator formed substance out of chaos, and made what-was-not-into what-is” (Sefer Yetzirab, 2:6)
